A Short Introduction to the University of Vienna
The University of Vienna is one of the largest and oldest universities in the German speaking area. Since 1365 it has grown to a complex organisation of more than 76,000 students and 8,600 employees. The University of Vienna looks back on a long and eventful history, nevertheless it considers itself also as a modern university capable of change.

The highest governing bodies are the University Council with chairman Max Kothbauer, the Senate representing the faculties with chairman Gerhard Clemenz and the Rector’s Team consisting of Georg Winckler, Rector, Johann Jurenitsch, Arthur Mettinger, Martha Sebök and Günther Vinek, Vice Rectors.
