Master programmes with selection procedure

The selection procedures differ, depending on the degree programme. They may require, for example, a statement of purpose and a curriculum vitae (CV). A written entrance exam is only conducted in the master programme in Psychology.

At the University of Vienna, selection procedures are carried out for the following master programmes:

The application for any of these degree programmes is done in u:space and is possible only once a year within the application period.

Between 30 and 50 university places are available per year, depending on the degree programme of your choice. The allocation of available places is carried out through the admission procedure.

  • Do my documents need to be legalised?

    Yes, your higher education degree certificate(s) and your transcripts need to be legalised as prescribed for the issuing country. 

  • How many places are available each academic year?

    Each academic year, between 30 and 50 places are allocated per degree programme. 

  • Do I need a proof of German language proficiency at level A2?

    Among all master programmes with entrance exam procedure, only the master programme Psychology is instructed in German.

    Therefore, a proof of German language proficiency at level A2 is required for the application for this master programme. For the admission to the degree programme, you need a proof of German proficiency at level C1.

  • I can't find my master programme in the list in u:space – why?

    Please note that the application periods for admission to programmes with entrance exam procedure and master programmes without entrance exam procedure differ. Make sure, if the application period for the desired master programme is currently open. Only then will it appear in the drop-down menu.

  • Do I have to be admitted to enter Austria?

    If you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country, please contact the responsible Austrian representation (embassy/consulate) to find out if you need a residence permit and how you can enter Austria. The Austrian representation will inform you which documents are required for the application for a residence permit.

  • How long will my admission letter remain valid?

    Your admission letter will be valid for the winter semester you applied for and the following summer semester. We recommend beginning your studies in the winter semester.

  • How is the entrance exam procedure carried out?

    You can find detailed information regarding the entrance exam procedure on the details page of each degree programme.

  • I have not yet completely finished my bachelor degree. Can I already apply for admission?

    In principle, you must already have completed your bachelor programme at the time you apply for admission. If you are near completion, an individual assessment of your academic progress will show whether you can participate in the entrance exam procedure or not. 

  • When will I know if I can be admitted?

    You will be informed at the mid/end of June whether you can be admitted or not. The master programme in Psychology is an exception, as the results will only be announced after the entrance exam.
