Master programmes with special admission requirements

For the following master programmes of the University of Vienna special admission requirements apply:


Due to the global situation regarding Covid-19, it is currently difficult to obtain documents in many places. If you have problems providing certain legalisations or proofs at the time of applying, please contact us via contact form.

A prolongation of application periods is not planned. If you apply in time, but certain documents or legalisations are missing, you will receive an amendment request and a reasonable deadline by which the missing documents must be resubmitted.

For the master programme PSYCHOLOGY ONLY: Please note! This does not apply to the certificate of proficiency in German at level A2 required for the application for degree programmes instructed in German: If you do not have this document at the time of applying, you cannot submit your application. Applications without the required proof of German knowledge at level A2 will be rejected in any case.

Application for admission to a master programme with special admission requirements

 Required documents

You need (regardless of your citizenship and the country of issuance of your degree)

as a JPEG or PNG file:

  • your passport or personal ID card (front and back)

as separate PDF files:


Application period for the academic year 2020/21:

  • from 2 March to 30 April 2020

Admission period for the academic year 2020/21:

  • winter semester 2020/21: from 3 August to 30 November 2020
  • summer semester 2021: from 7 January to 30 April 2021

 Semester start

  • winter semester: 1 October
  • summer semester: 1 March

Schedule of the academic year

The application for any of these degree programmes is done in u:space and is possible only once a year within the application period.

Between 30 and 50 university places are available per year, depending on the degree programme of your choice. The allocation of available places is carried out by the selection panel.

Even if an application includes documents from non-EU/EEA countries, no proof of special university entrance qualification is needed.
