Scholarship "Aktiv Studieren und Beruf"


Students of higher semesters who work besides studying can apply for the scholarship "Aktiv Studieren und Beruf" for the academic year 2019/20. It aims at supporting students to complete their studies in a timely manner.

The amount of this scholarhip is 700 Euro per academic year or 350 Euro if the tuition fee was only prescribed for one semester.

Requirements for applying

  1. In the winter semester 2019 and/or summer semester 2020, you are admitted to a degree programme at the University of Vienna, and
  2. the tuition fee is prescribed for this degree programme, and
  3. you have achieved the required performance in this degree programme (see below), and
  4. you have not exceeded the maximum duration of your studies (double degree programme duration), and
  5. in the calender year 2019, you have earned more than the minor employment threshold (14 times the monthly income according to  § 5 para. 2 of the Austrian General Social Security Act) of the year in which you apply, but not more than 20,000 Euro (gross), and can prove your income accordingly (see FAQ).

At which stage of my studies can I apply?

Before you apply, you have to meet all the above-mentioned requirements. You must also have completed a minimum number of ECTS at the time of applying.

The application can be submitted once per year.

For the academic year 2019/20:

  •  from 1 October 2020 to 30 November 2020

How can I apply?

  1. Download the application form (available during the application period via the link in the box "required documents").
  2. Scan all required documents and submit them as one single file in PDF format via the Servicedesk of the University of Vienna (section: tuition fee/Students' Union fee). If you are admitted to two or more degree programmes at the University of Vienna at the same time, you must choose one for which you would like to award the scholarship. This degree programme is then considered for the grant until its successful completion.

For further questions, please use the Servicedesk of the University of Vienna (tuition fee/Students' Union fee). Do not submit any application outside the application period!


  • The scholarship is provided by the Rectorate within the private-sector administration of the University of Vienna.
  • After submitting the application, it may take several weeks until the possible payment is made.
  • Applicants must not have used any reason for remission or reimbursement of the tuition fee nor any tax deductibility/any other study support measures. 
  • Incomplete application forms or applications with missing documents cannot be considered for the awarding of scholarships.
  • The scholarship can be granted to students who have not exceeded the maximum duration of studies, which is twice the standard duration of your degree programme, e.g. bachelor programme of six semesters + two tolerance semesters → you can submit an application for the next four semesters (total duration of 12 semesters).
  • In case you study at two different educational institutions, you can only apply for this scholarship if you have paid the tuition fee at the University of Vienna.
  • If the scholarship is awarded due to false or incomplete information, the amount has to be paid back. Penal or civil proceedings may be initialised.
  • There is no legal entitlement to this scholarship.
  • Do not forget to pay the tuition fee and the Students' Union fee within the payment period!

I'm on a leave of absence, can I nevertheless apply for this scholarship?
Are the semesters of my leave of absence included in the maximal number of semesters?
