Re-enrolment

As a university student, you have to pay the tuition fee/Students' Union fee every semester within the admission period in order to continue your studies. The payment triggers the re-enrolment in your degree programme for the next semester.

Once the re-enrolment has been successful, you can print your student documents of the respective semester (student record sheet, confirmation of enrolment) in u:space > Personal matters > My documents and validate your u:card.

Payment at the University of Vienna

In order to continue your studies at the University of Vienna, please note the following:

  • The prescribed amount has to be paid within the admission period.
  • The prescribed amount must be paid at once, it is not possible to pay by instalments. It consists of the Students' Union fee + tuition fee, if needed (= total amount indicated in u:space).
  • It may take up to seven days until the payment is received. Therefore, please pay in time (= a few days before the deadline)!

As soon as the prescribed fee is received in u:space > Financial matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee, the re-enrolment has been carried out. The status in u:space > Studies > Study overview shows "admitted" to the next semester. Please check both!

Payment at a different Austrian university - re-enrolment at the University of Vienna

In case you have paid the fee at a different Austrian university, you have to re-enrol in your studies at the University of Vienna. You can do that until the end of the admission period, otherwise your degree programme will be automatically discontinued with this date.

You can re-enrol your studies – a few days after paying at another Austrian university – via these steps:

  1. Log in to u:space.
  2. Verify if your fee has been reported as "received" (this may take a few days) in Financial matters > Tuition/Students' Union fee.
  3. If that is the case, search the degree programme you wish to re-enrol into via Studies > Study overview. Click on the button "continue studying" and confirm that you wish to re-enrol in this degree programme. Repeat this step for each degree programme you wish to continue studying, if you are admitted to multiple degree programmes,
  4. Once you reload the website, you will receive information that you have been re-enrolled in your degree programme. Afterwards, you can print your study documents via Personal matters > My documents.

FAQs

/

  • I paid my fee more than a week ago, but the payment is still not received in u:space, what shall I do?

If your payment is not received in u:space after seven days it is likely that something went wrong in the payment process. Please check all data you used in the transfer (compare the semester client code in u:space, check the exact amount, etc…).

In case of an incorrect payment, the bank cannot refer it to the student’s account at the university. As your degree programme is not activated or continued, you will lose your admission.

Which types of incorrect payment exist?

There are various types of incorrect payment:

    1. The semester client code is incorrect or missing.
    2. The semester client code of a past semester was used.
    3. The payment form was filled with correct data, however, the payment has not come through.
    4. A mistake was made in a cash payment.
    5. You used eps payment and the amount was withdrawn twice by the bank.
    6. The transferred amount was too low/too high.

Option 1: The semester client code is incorrect or missing.

You forgot to enter your semester client code or accidentally entered it in the incorrect field (e.g. “Verwendungszweck” instead of “Zahlungsreferenz”)?

In this case, the bank cannot assign the payment to your student account at the University of Vienna and will return the payment to the bank account of the paying party. This return remittance may incur expenses which will be deducted from the paying party’s account.

Option 2: The semester client code of a past semester was used.

Have you accidentally used the semester client code of a past semester?

In this case, the bank cannot assign the paid amount and will return it to the bank account of the paying party. This return remittance may incur expenses, which will be deducted from the paying party’s account.

Option 3: The payment form was filled with correct data, however, the payment has not come through.

You have filled in the data correctly, however, the payment is not yet visible in u:space after seven days?

    Potential sources of error are:

    • Payment at the self-service terminals at your bank
    • The bank employee has not transmitted the semester client code

In this case, the bank cannot assign the paid amount and will return it to the bank account of the paying party. This return remittance may incur expenses, which will be deducted from the paying party’s account.

Option 4: A mistake was made in a cash payment.

Sometimes the semester client code is not transmitted if you pay cash at the bank counter.

In this case, the bank cannot assign the paid amount and will return it to your bank. Please contact the bank branch where you paid your fee.

Option 5: You used eps payment and the amount was withdrawn twice.

Please contact your bank. Your bank should get in touch with Raiffeisenbank directly. A return remittance is only possible via Raiffeisenbank.

Option 6: The transferred amount was too high/too low.

If the paid amount was too high (e.g. in case of double payment or incorrect prescription), the difference is reimbursed by the University of Vienna after you have applied for reimbursement.

If the paid amount was too low, you have to pay the remaining amount via bank card at the Admission Office until the end of the admission period. In case you have not paid the remaining amount in due time, you will lose the admission to your degree programme(s) and all claims connected with it (i.e. family allowance, study grant, etc.).

  • Can I pay the tuition fee/Students' Union fee in advance for the next semester?

    No, this is not possible.

  • Should I pay with some kind of express payment, so the money is transferred faster?

No, the transfer is not that much faster – so it does not really affect the process.
The fastest way to transfer the amount is via eps payment (possible only with an Austrian bank account). Your fee is received immediately and your degree programme is continued.

  • What happens if I pay too late/too little?

In this case you will lose the admission to all of your degree programmes at the University of Vienna.

  • I am also studying at a university of applied sciences. Do I have to pay twice?

A different law applies to universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulstudiengesetz, FHStG). Your studies are not automatically continued by paying your tuition fee if you are studying at a university of applied sciences (FH) and a university at the same time.

Some FHs forward on to the universities that the Students' Union fee has been paid there. This forwarding is not yet carried out by all universities of applied sciences. If you pay at the FH: About a week after the payment, check u:space > Financial Matters> Tuition Fee/Students' Union Fee to see whether the Students' Union fee has been reported as "received". If this is the case you can re-enrol your studies at the University of Vienna via Studies > Study Overview. If the Students' Union fee has not been reported as "received" and there is no incorrect payment at the FH, the payment will not be forwarded by your FH. You have to pay at the University of Vienna again.

Regarding the reimbursement of the Students' Union fee paid twice (including insurance), please contact the Austrian Students' Union directly.

  • I have paid my tuition fee/Students' Union fee. Why can't I print my student documents?

Transfers via online banking or payment form can take up to seven days. You can check if the payment has been successful in u:space > Financial matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee. As soon as the words "received on..." appear next to the amount, the fee has been registered as paid and you can print your student documents.

If you have paid the tuition/Students' Union fee at another Austrian university, you have to re-enrol your studies at the University of Vienna yourself. Only afterwards you can print your student documents.

  • I have not paid my tuition fee/Students' Union fee correctly. What can I do?

In case of an incorrect payment, the money is usually transferred back to your bank account. You will have to pay again correctly and in due time in order to continue your studies.
