Additional exams
Is an additional exam required for my degree programme?
Latin
You do not need the additional exam if you have successfully completed at least ten hours of Latin per week at a secondary school. You must provide evidence of this by submitting your school transcripts when applying for first-time admission.
- Before admission: For some degree programmes, you must provide proof of your Latin proficiency before being admitted. If you did not study Latin to a sufficient degree at school, please contact the Bildungsdirektion Wien (only available in German). You can take the additional exam in Latin there.
- During your studies: For some degree programmes, you must pass the additional exam in Latin during your studies (for diploma programmes, by the end of the first stage). The additional exam must not be the final examination of the degree programme or stage.
If you do not have the required proof, the need to pass the additional exam will be specified during the admission procedure. You can see this on your student record sheet.
You can take the additional exam by completing the courses offered by the Department of Classical Philology, Medieval and Neolatin Studies. You can find all information about the additional exam and the recognition of the ECTS for the minimum number of credits at the StudiesServiceCenter (SSC) Philological and Cultural Studies (only available in German).
