Studienstart Plus is a supplementary course programme for first-year students from all faculties at the University of Vienna. It supports you as you begin your studies and throughout the Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP). The programme aims to help you find your way around the University of Vienna, encourage interaction with fellow students, and equip you from the very beginning with the knowledge and skills needed for successful studies.

No, participation is voluntary. Studienstart Plus is designed to support you as you begin your studies and navigate everyday university life, but it is not a requirement for completing the Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP).

Yes, each course is worth 1 to 4 ECTS credits. As all courses involve continuous assessment, you are required to complete assignments and other assessed activities throughout the semester, just as in your regular degree programme, in order to earn ECTS credits.

Whether ECTS credits can be recognised as Alternative Extensions, electives, free electives, or interest modules depends on your degree programme. You can find further information in your curriculum or contact the StudiesServiceCenter or StudiesServiceUnit responsible for your degree programme.

Yes, in the current Bachelor's programme in Teacher Education, courses from Studienstart Plus can be recognised as part of the elective component (10 ECTS credits). Please note: This elective component will no longer be available in the new, shortened three-year Bachelor's programme in Teacher Education. If you are unsure, please contact your Studies Programme Directorate.

Any credits you have already earned will, of course, remain valid. Whether and how they can be recognised towards your new degree programme is determined by the respective Studies Programme Directorate.

No, you will receive ECTS credits for each course you successfully complete. You are not required to participate in all advanced courses.
