Change of/additional degree programme
Are you already studying at the University of Vienna and would like to change your degree programme or start an additional degree programme? This page sets out the steps required for admission and provides answers to frequently asked questions about changing degree programmes and studying for multiple degrees.
How often can I change my degree programme?
You are allowed to change your degree programme as often as you like. However, a change of degree programme may affect your family and/or study grant.
If you have any questions, please contact the responsible authority directly (your local tax office or the student grant authority). You should clarify any implications for your residence permit directly with the Immigration Office (MA 35) or the district commission.
How many degree programmes can I study at the same time?
You may be admitted to an unlimited number of degree programmes. Please note: Successfully and actively pursuing multiple degree programmes involves a greater amount of effort in organising your studies. All programmes at the University of Vienna are full-time programmes. No distinction is made between main and minor degree programmes.
If you have any questions regarding family allowance or your study grant, please contact the responsible authority (your local tax office or the federal aid for students authority) directly.
I would like to transfer to the University of Vienna from another higher education institution
If you wish to study with us, you must go through the admission procedure. It is not possible to directly start your studies in a higher semester. Once you have been admitted, you can request the recognition of your previous examinations at the StudiesServiceCenter/StudiesServiceUnit of your degree programme, thereby shortening the duration of your studies.
