Using AI in your Studies
Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday student life. AI-supported tools suggest literature, generate outlines and improve your writing style. At the same time, their use raises important questions: What is permitted? Where are the boundaries? And what do students need to be aware of?
On these pages, you will find reliable information on the responsible use of AI in degree programmes at the University of Vienna. You will learn under which conditions AI may be used, which specific provisions apply to examinations and what requires particular attention when using AI.
The content is based on the current regulations of the University of Vienna and is intended for students of all disciplines. The aim is to support a responsible, transparent and reflective use of AI.

KI und wissenschaftliches Arbeiten
AI can support academic work and writing, for example when generating ideas, structuring texts, refining language and style, organising literature or clarifying questions of understanding. However, core academic tasks such as developing research questions, argumentation, interpretation and evaluation must be carried out independently.
What matters is that the use of AI is aligned with the learning objectives, critically reflected upon and made transparent. Responsibility for content, quality and academic integrity remains with you.
