Welcome to the University of Vienna’s alumni community. Now that you have graduated you are entering a new stage of life. This also means that your relationship to your alma mater changes. The University of Vienna would like to continue to accompany you on your path. For this purpose, we are offering the following services to you.

Advice on getting started on your career. Many questions arise when it comes to starting a career after graduation. Our advisory team at Uniport, the career service of the University of Vienna, are happy to assist you with personalised consultations and workshops. A number of career events provide insight into different job profiles and the opportunity to get in touch with prospective employers.

Benefits for alumni: Members of the Alumni Association receive a 15 % discount on the JobStart seminars offered by the career service Uniport.

Job exchange

Finding jobs

Your chances of finding a job after graduation increase if you have already collected some work experience during your studies. Uniport, the career service of the University of Vienna, offers its own job exchange, where internships, trainee programmes as well as jobs in Vienna and all of Austria are advertised.

Self-employment & establishing a company

Incorporation programme

u:start is the incorporation programme for graduates. It supports academics who are considering self-employment or establishing their own company or enterprise. The training programme assists graduates in developing their initial business idea into a high-quality business plan.

Your continuing education and training

Lifelong learning. The University of Vienna offers more than 70 postgraduate master’s programmes, university continuing education and training programmes and certificate courses, most of them part-time. They provide additional interdisciplinary, practice-oriented qualifications for graduates

Language courses for beginners and advanced learners

Multilingual. Be it Arabic, Russian or Business English — at the Language Centre of the University of Vienna you can improve your language skills in more than 30 foreign languages or work on your language skills together with language exchange partners. 

Benefits for alumni: Members of the Alumni Association receive a 10 % discount on all courses offered by the Language Centre of the University of Vienna.

Keeping up with your discipline

Discipline-specific initiatives for alumni

Biologists have different interests than archaeologists or physicists. The discipline-specific initiatives for alumni offer the opportunity to keep up with developments in your own discipline even after graduation. Regular newsletters provide information on subject-specific activities for alumni.

Becoming a mentor

No matter if you would like to share your experiences on finding a job, staying abroad or establishing companies and enterprises — on the alma Mentoring Platform of the University of Vienna you can become a mentor and share your knowledge with other graduates.

Continuing to seek knowledge. Graduating from the University of Vienna does not mean that you can no longer access the University’s information resources. Graduates can continue to use their library accounts or extend them (€ 15 per year) and continue to use electronic resources free of charge (at the locations of the Vienna University Library and via the internal university Wi-Fi).

Benefits for alumni: Members of the Alumni Association receive a 50 % discount on library cards (€ 7.50).

Staying fit. From Aikido to Zumba — the University Sport Institute (USI) offers courses for around 160 different types of sports as well as continuing education and training programmes.

Benefits for alumni: All USI courses are available to university graduates at special alumni rates.

Returning You can participate in a number of different events held by the University of Vienna in order to stay in touch with academia. Under the motto “academia at the heart of the city”, the University of Vienna offers guided tours, panel discussions, exhibitions and many other events to provide insight into the different research areas at the University.
