Change of/additional master programme
Would you like to change your master programme or start an additional one? Here you can find out what the deadlines are and how to proceed step by step.
To receive admission to a master programme, you must have completed a bachelor or diploma programme in the same or a related subject. Check the Master Access Guide to find out which previous studies are eligible and what supporting documents you need.
Master programmes without entrance exam procedure
Have you completed your degree at the University of Vienna? For an eligible master programme according to the curriculum, longer deadlines apply:
- Your application and admission period for the 2026/27 winter semester runs from 22 June to 31 October 2026.
- Your application and admission period for the 2027 summer semester runs from 16 November 2026 to 31 March 2027.
The direct admission to consecutive master programmes in the same discipline is possible year round.

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens or third-country citizens with equivalent status:
- Application period: from 22 June to 5 September 2026
- Admission period: from 13 July to 31 October 2026
Non-EU/EEA citizens:
- Application period: from 22 June to 3 August 2026
- Admission period: from 13 July to 31 October 2026
Start of term: 1 October

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens or third-country citizens with equivalent status:
- Application period: from 16 November 2026 to 5 February 2027
- Admission period: from 11 January to 31 March 2027
Non-EU/EEA citizens:
- Application period: from 16 November 2026 to 7 January 2027
- Admission period: from 11 January to 31 March 2027
Start of term: 1 March
Your steps to a master programme
Submit your application for admission to a degree programme within the application period. Select this in u:space → Degree programmes → Apply for admission and upload the required documents. Have we already confirmed a document (status 'confirmed')? If so, you do not need to upload it again.
Check whether your application has the status 'Application submitted' in u:space → My Study Applications.
If you meet all the requirements, you will receive your official notice of admisson by email to your u:account email address (https://webmail.univie.ac.at) after a few weeks’ processing time. You can also download the official notice of admisson from u:space → Personal → My Documents.
Master programmes with entrance exam procedure
Entrance exam procedures take place once per academic year. For some of these degree programmes, there is a written test; for others, you will need to provide evidence of knowledge gained from your previous studies and/or submit a letter of motivation.
