A selection procedure is conducted for admission to this master programme.

  • Graduates from the bachelor programme in Economics at the University of Vienna are exempt from this selection procedure.
  • All other prospective students can only submit your application for admission to the degree programme once per year, within the application period.  
  • The admission letter is only valid for the winter semester you have applied for and the following summer semester. 
  • The allocation of available study places ensues during the selection procedure. 180 study places are available per academic year for prospective students who have completed other previous degree programmes.

 Degree programme instructed in English

The language of instruction in this degree programme is English. A proof of German language proficiency is not required.

Additional requirements

Qualitative admission requirements (QZB)

Admission to a master programme is only possible if you have completed a closely related previous degree programme. In this master programme you must fulfill QZB at the time of application. These stringent requirements determine the knowledge and competences you must fulfill ahead of your application. QZB may not be postponed to be fulfilled during the degree programme you are applying for (contrary to supplementary examinations).

You must prove the following QZB: 

  • Knowledge in microeconomics (6 ECTS) AND
  • Knowledge in macroeconomics (6 ECTS) AND
  • Knowledge in mathematics (6 ECTS) (college level calculus, optimization, linear algebra or analysis) AND
  • Knowledge in statistics (6 ECTS)

By completing the extension curricula "EC Economics: an Introduction" and "EC Economics: Methods" at the University of Vienna the qualitative admission requirements regarding the knowledge in Economics are fulfilled.

English language proficiency at level B2

To be admitted to an English or multilingual master programme at the University of Vienna, you have to provide a proof of English language proficiency. 

To apply for admission to this degree programme, you require a proof of English language proficiency at level B2.

GMAT/GRE General Test®

You have to provide your results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test in your application for admission.
