You have passed all prescribed supplementary examinations at the VWU? If so, you can transfer to the degree programme.

How the transfer works depends on two questions:

  • Do you have an admission letter for a bachelors'/diploma or master's programme?
  • Is an entrance exam procedure required in your degree programme? 

Transfer to the bachelor's or diploma programme

  • Programmes without entrance exam procedure

    You can be admitted to the bachelor's or diploma programme without entrance exam procedure if you fulfil the following requirements: 

    • You have an admission letter for your chosen degree programme
    • You have completed all supplementary examinations at the VWU 
    • The admission period is currently open.  

  • Follow these steps:

    1. Merge all certificates of the supplementary examinations and the admission letter of the programme you want to start into one PDF file. 
    2. Send the PDF file within the admission period of the semester you want to start your studies in to the Admission Office via the Servicedesk. 

    We will check your data. Afterwards we will preliminarily admit you to the degree programme and inform you via e-mail about your further steps. The processing may take several days. 

  • Programmes with entrance exam procedure

    You can be admitted to a bachelor's or diploma programme with entrance exam procedure if you fulfil the following requirements: 

    • You have an admission letter for your chosen degree programme
    • You have completed all supplementary examinations at the VWU 
    • The admission period is currently open.  
    • You have registered for the entrance exam procedure within the application period and have received a study place. Your result is valid for one academic year (exception: bachelor's programme in Teacher Education). You can start your studies in the winter or summer semester after the test. 
      • For admission in winter semester: by 31 October at the latest 
      • For admission in summer semester: by 31 March at the latest 

  • Follow these steps:

    1. Merge all certificates of the supplementary examinations and the admission letter of the programme you want to start into one PDF file. 
    2. Send the PDF file within the admission period of the semester you want to start your studies in to the Admission Office via the Servicedesk. 

    We will check your data. Afterwards we will preliminarily admit you to the degree programme and inform you via e-mail about your further steps. The processing may take several days. 

    You have not (yet) successfully participated in the entrance exam procedure? In this case you have to register for it within the application period, successfully participate in the entrance exam procedure and receive a study place.

Transfer to the master's programme

  • Requirements

    You can be admitted to the master's programme if you fulfil the following requirements: 

    • You have an admission letter for your chosen degree programme
    • You have completed the supplementary examination in German at the VWU 
    • The admission period is currently open.  

  • Follow these steps

    1. Merge the certificate of the supplementary examination and the admission letter of the programme you want to start into one PDF file. 
    2. Send the PDF file with the certificate and your admission letter to the Admission Office via the Servicedesk within the admission period of the semester you want to start your studies in. If you have multiple admission letters, only send the admission letter of the degree programme you want to be admitted to. 

    We will check your data. Afterwards we will preliminarily admit you to the degree programme and inform you via e-mail about your further steps. The processing may take several days. 

Deadlines

  • Winter semester 2026/27

    • Admission period: 13 July to 31 October 2026
    • Semester start: 1 October

  • Summer semester 2027

    • Admission period: 11 January to 31 March 2027
    • Semester start: 1 March

FAQ – Completing the VWU

You would like to be admitted to another programme instead of the one you have originally applied for? Submit a new application for admission to the programme in u:space within the application period. Use your existing u:account to do so. 

The application period for degree programmes without entrance exam or selection procedure depends on your citizenship. The application for programmes with entrance exam or selection procedure is possible only once per year. Find out, if an entrance exam or selection procedure is required for your chosen degree programme in good time. 

No. You can only register for courses after you have been admitted to the degree programme. We therefore recommend completing the supplementary examinations before the semester starts. 

If you also have an admission letter for a programme without entrance exam or selection procedure you can start your studies with this programme in the meantime. Once you have successfully participated in the entrance exam procedure and have received a study place you can change to this programme. 

Please note: You can only be admitted to the non-degree programme for attending the preparation programme as long as you attend courses there. Once you have completed the VWU admission to the non-degree programme to attend the VWU is no longer possible! Please ensure to have all the information about your next steps in good time! Only then you can avoid consequences for your residence permit!
