Arabic Linguistics (Master)

The master's programme in Arabic Linguistics at the University of Vienna qualifies students to conduct independent linguistic and, in particular, dialectological research on the Arabic language. Graduates are able to use basic methods and questions of general linguistics to analyse and describe the spoken varieties of Arabic.

Required Knowledge on Arabic:

As a qualitative admission requirement, applicants must provide proof of knowledge of Classical Arabic and/or Modern Standard Arabic at level B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proof through Previous Studies, a certificate at least at level B2 (e.g. from the Language Center) or completed school education over at least 9 school levels in an Arabic-speaking country are accepted.

The programme consists of seven compulsory modules, three elective module groups, the preparation of a master's thesis and a master's examination.
