Global Demography (master's programme)
The population is growing, ageing and migrating – in a world with more than eight billion people, an understanding of demography is essential. If you enjoy solving puzzles where the pieces are individual stories and the playing field is the entire planet, you’ve come to the right place – but make sure you have your mathematical and analytical tools at the ready. As part of the master's programme in Global Demography, you will analyse global population dynamics and demonstrate what demographic change means for education, labour markets, urban development and climate policy.
What is it about?
During the master's programme in Global Demography, you will acquire a solid foundation in demographic theories and global trends. You will work with key data sources, apply demographic methods and use statistical software for analysis and forecasting. You will examine fertility, mortality and migration trends and classify them according to the different stages of demographic transition. You will critically analyse the literature, make empirical comparisons between countries and present fact-based arguments, even in controversial debates. You will link demography to human capital, the economy and social policy. You will evaluate long-term scenarios relating to climate and sustainable development using systems analysis models.
