Admission to master's programmes without selection procedure
Students with degree from the University of Vienna
You have completed your degree programme at the University of Vienna and would like to continue your studies with us? Your next steps will depend on whether your chosen master's programme is in the same subject or not. We’ll guide you through the admission procedure step-by-step.
What does "in the same subject" mean?
“In the same subject” (= “consecutive” or “certainly eligible”) means that your completed degree programme is directly related to your chosen master's programme, e.g. bachelor's in Mathematics and master's in Mathematics.
You can find out if your degree programme is in the same subject in the curriculum of the master's programme and in the Master Access Guide.
Deadlines for master's programmes in the same subject
-
Please note!
You completed a bachelor's programme in the same subject at the University of Vienna? These deadlines apply to you if no qualitative admission requirements (QZB), language proficiency or other additional requirements are specified in the curriculum of the master's programme. If such additional requirements are specified, the deadlines for degree programmes in a different subject area apply to you.

- Log in to u:space within the application period.
- At Studies → Apply for consecutive master's programme you'll see all programmes where an automatic admission is possible.
- Select the degree programme you want to study and “Admit”. Thereby you are preliminarily admitted for the relevant semester.
- Pay the tuition fee/Students' Union fee. Your admission is complete once the fee is registered as “received” in u:space.
- You will see that your admission has been finalised in u:space → Studies → Study overview.
-
I cannot find the master's programme I am looking for
The degree programme you are interested in is not listed in u:space Studies → Apply for consecutive master's programme? In that case the automatic admission is not possible. Instead submit your application within the application period in u:space → Apply for admission. If this also is not possible, message us via the Servicedesk.

Special case: Same-day admission
If you fulfil certain requirements, a same-day admission to a master's programme in the same subject area may be possible.
We explain what this means and how to apply for same-day admission here.
Our tip:
Good preparation for your application: Find out whether our degree programme is eligible, which documents and proofs are required and wat else you need to bear in mind in the Master Access Guide (MAG).

Step 1: Submit your application
Log in to u:space and select the programme you want to study at Studies → Apply for admission. Documents with the status “confirmed” do not need to be uploaded again. Upload all proofs required according to the curriculum as PDF-files (e.g. proof of English language proficiency). If you have prepared all documents the application will only take a few minutes. Select “Submit application” to finish.
As soon as the status of your application is “submitted” in u:spaces → My applications, we can process your application.
The processing may take several weeks. For organisational reasons, we are unable to provide any information on the status of your application.
We will send your admission letter to the e-mail address you provided in u:space. You will then also be able to find it in u:space at Personal Matters → My Documents.
The admission may
- be granted without any supplementary examinations.
- be granted with supplementary examinations from the bachelor's programme (max. 30 ECTS).
- be rejected due to missing pertinence/qualitative admission requirements.
Your admission letter will state whether you need to complete any “subject-specific” supplementary examinations from the bachelor's programme at the University of Vienna. These supplementary examinations compensate for subject-specific differences. You do not have to be admitted to the bachelor's programme. You will complete the “subject-specific” supplementary examinations after your admission to the master's programme. You have to complete them within two semesters.
Your admission letter is valid for two semesters – as long as there were no statutory or admission-related changes to the curriculum in this timeframe. If you do not start your studies in the semester you have applied for, admission is also possible in the following semester. If you do not complete the admission procedure then, you have to apply for admission again. We recommend starting your studies in the winter semester.
You have received your admission letter? This does not mean that you are already admitted to the degree programme. We explain your next steps here:
