Deadlines for degree programmes without an entrance exam procedure
Here you can find a summary of application and admission deadlines for bachelor/diploma and master programmes at the University of Vienna.
- Degree Programmes with an entrance exam procedure have separate application and admission periods!
- For people who have to participate in a preparation course for German or other subjects in the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU) the admission period for the summer semester 2021 ends on 5 February 2021.
The winter semester starts on 1 October and the summer semester starts on 1 March (schedule of the academic year).
The admission period consists of the general admission period and the period of grace. Which deadline applies to you depends on your citizenship, the issuing country of your secondary school leaving certificate/degree and the desired degree programme.

Next application periods
An application for first-time admission to degree programmes without entrance exam procedure, the resumption of studies, the admission to an additional degree programme and the change of degree programmes is possible during these periods (= general admission periods):
- Summer semester 2021: from 7 January to 5 February 2021
- Winter semester 2021/22: from 12 July to 5 September 2021
Next admission periods
The first-time admission, if you do not have to participate in a preparation course in the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities, is possible during these periods:
- Summer semester 2021: from 7 January to 30 April 2021
- Winter semester 2021/22: from 12 July to 30 November 2021
Master programmes
Next application periods
For graduates of the University of Vienna and people with citizenship from an EU/EEA-country or Switzerland:
- Summer semester 2021: from 7 January to 30 April 2021
- Winter semester 2021/22: from 12 July to 30 November 2021
For people with citizenship from a non-EU/EEA-country:
- Summer semester 2021: from 7 January to 5 February 2021
- Winter semester 2021/22: from 12 July to 5 September 2021
