The bachelor’s programme in Jewish Studies aims at providing an academic pre-professional education. It imparts knowledge of Jewish history, culture and literature, and Judaism from its origins until the present day. The programme aims at developing students’ language proficiency in Hebrew.

A prerequisite for successfully completing the bachelor’s programme is language proficiency in Latin by the end of the programme. Previous knowledge of Hebrew is not a prerequisite.

Please note that the instruction language of this programme is German. To start the degree programme, you need to hold a certificate of German proficiency on C1 level.

Study programme

The bachelor’s programme consists of an Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP) including the modules: Principles of Thinking in Historical and Cultural Studies, Introduction to Jewish Cultural History and Biblical Hebrew for Jewish Studies Students; and of the compusory modules; Academic Methodology; Hebrew; History, Culture, Literature and Religion of Judaism; Main Sources of Jewish Cultural History and the Module chosen according to interest: Jewish Cultural History. In the course of the Final Module the students have to write a bachelor's thesis.
