Confirmations for third parties

External authorities have to include certain information in their request for confirmation/verification. The details needed are listed here:

For authorities liable to submit information/legal authorities

These include magistrates offices, the police, financial authorities, insurance companies, grant/student loan authorities.

These offices send their request to containing:

  • name and address of their institution
  • information about the student they inquire about (name, date of birth)
  • information about the degree programme s/he studies/studied (matriculation number, name of degree programme)
  • definition of data requested (details of what is needed: student record sheet, diploma certificate, verification of existence of degree programme)
  • reason why data are requested
  • details of receiving institution and address

For other external institutions

These include hiring services, future employers and other organisations which need information about active students, former students and alumni of the University of Vienna. 

In these cases, the person inquired about has to sign a paper of authorisation for the inquiring institution. The authorisation has to contain: 

  • definition of data requested (exact definition of data needed)
  • name
  • date of birth
  • own address or address of receiving institution
  • degree programme
  • matriculation number
  • purpose of the request
  • scan of a valid personal ID (e.g. passport, driving licence)

The confirmation can be sent via e-mail to or via post.
