Studying at the University of Vienna again – different degree programme

You were admitted to a bachelor/diploma or master programme at the University of Vienna and want to study a different degree programme? Here you can find detailed information to best prepare your return to the University of Vienna. 

General information about your return to the University of Vienna

  • Minimum academic achievement: Since winter semester 2022/23 you have to achieve at least 16 ECTS for each bachelor/diploma programme you are admitted to. If this is not the case, the degree programme will be closed. 
  • Change of name: If your legal name has changed, please disclose this at an early stage. Message us via the contact form and attach a scan of your valid passport or personal ID card and a proof of the name change (e.g. marriage certificate or official notice of the name change).
  • Application and admission period: The deadlines for your admission at the University of Vienna depend on the type of degree programme and your citizenship. You can find detailed information at the respective type of degree programme. 
  • Recognition of exams: The StudiesServiceCenter (SSC)/StudiesServiceUnit (SSS) of the respective degree programme can provide information regarding recognition of prior study achievements and help you to organise your studies.
  • Completion of the admission: You do not have to book an online appointment. 
  • Simultaneous admission at two Austrian universities: It is not permitted to be admitted to the same degree programme at two Austrian universities at the same time. If you have already studied the chosen degree programme at another university, please send your confirmation of withdrawal via the contact form.

You do not have to book an online appointment to complete the admission procedure. Your further steps depend on the country of issuance of your secondary-school leaving certificate and your citizenship.

  • Your secondary-school leaving certificate and citizenship are from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland:
    Message us via the contact form within the admission period and attach a scan of your passport or personal ID card. We will implement the admission and inform you about further steps via e-mail. The processing may take several days.
  • Your secondary-school leaving certificate is from a non-EU/EEA country:
    Wait for your admission letter. The processing may take several weeks. You will receive your admission letter and information on further steps via e-mail.

You want to be admitted to a different bachelor/diploma programme with entrance exam procedure?

Apply for admission in u:space within the application period, as described in the information about the entrance exam procedure. The entrance exam procedure for bachelor and diploma programmes takes place once per academic year. The entrance exam is only valid for the winter and summer semester following the procedure. The successfully completed entrance exam procedure for the bachelor programme in Teacher Education it is valid indefinitely.

Admission to a degree programme is only possible after successful completion of the entrance exam procedure. You do not need to book an online appointment to complete the admission procedure. Message us via the contact form after the announcement of results and attach a scan of your passport or personal ID card.

The sporting aptitude admission test takes place twice per year. Therefore, the application for admission to the bachelor programme in Sport Science is also possible before the summer semester. Please note the applicable application and admission deadlines.

The application period for winter semester 2024/25 is from 10 June to 31 October 2024, the application period for summer semester 2025 is from 11 November until 31 March 2025. 

Different master programme with selection procedure

To be admitted to one of the master programmes in this list, you have to submit an application for admission and be successful in the selection procedure. This also applies if you were already admitted to this degree programme in the past and discontinued your studies. Submitting your application is only possible within the application period of the respective academic year.
