Remission of the tuition fee

Degree students can, if they have an appropriate reason, apply for remission of the tuition fee during the respective period.

The tuition fee for summer semester 2024 is remitted automatically for all students with Ukrainian citizenship who are admitted to a degree programme or a non-degree programme. You do not have to submit a separate application for remission.

  • Solely the listed reasons for remission can be accepted!
  • The Students' Union fee has to be paid in time even if your application for remission is accepted!

The processing of applications can take up to several weeks, so apply as soon as possible. You will be notified about the outcome of your application and possible further steps via e-mail to your u:account e-mail address.

Your current fee can be found in u:space > Financial matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee.

 FAQ

/

  • Can I apply for remission due to employment?

It is not possible anymore to apply for remission of the tuition fee for reasons of employment, as the Austrian Constitutional Court has withdrawn § 92 (5) UG 2012 due to unconstitutionality on 30 June 2018. No new regulation has been introduced so far. This is a matter within the sole jurisdiction of the federal legislator and therefore cannot be regulated by the universities themselves.

  • Remission due to illness: What qualifies als illness?

Reasons for illness may be, among other things, major operations, chronic illness or also mental impairments. You need a confirmation by a medical specialist (fachärztliche Bestätigung), that you are thereby impaired from your studies for at least two months during the semester. The diagnosis does not need to be stated.

  • What shall I do if I do not have all proofs for applying for remission until the application deadline?

In this case you must pay the tuition fee. Afterwards, you will be able to apply for remission and reimbursement at the same time. These two applications can be submitted for the winter semester until the following 28/29 February and for the summer semester until 30 September.

  • My application for remission of the tuition fee is approved, but I have already paid the tuition fee. What can I do?

If your application for remission is approved, you can apply for the reimbursement of the tuition fee in order to get the money transferred back to your bank account. The application for reimbursement can also be submitted together with the application for remission of the tuition fee.

  • What happens after I have applied for remission/reimbursement?

The processing of your application takes approx. four weeks. You will receive information about the outcome by e-mail to your u:account e-mail address. If your application for reimbursement is approved, the tuition fee will be transferred back to the bank account specified in u:space.
